Handling interruptions

When you are interrupted, ask yourself, what is more important, the interruption or what I am working on? Keep a list of current jobs. This will help you to re-focus on what you should be doing once you have handled the interruption. Try to keep interruptions short, what do you want, why, when? Keep a log of whom or what interrupts you; a pattern may emerge of who interrupts and on what subjects. Be assertive, learn to deal with, have you got a minute? Invent a deadline. Continue to look busy, stand up to interruptions; people rarely suit down while you are standing. Remove the spare chair in front of your desk. Reduce or, even better, avoid eye contact. Collect your papers, check your watch.
